ALS Association Provides Support For A Retired Correctional Officer

Article

My name is Ruben Jordan and on December 7, 2011, I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Due to my diagnosis, April 1, 2012, I medically retired from the State of California where I was employed for approximately 18 years as a Correctional Officer assigned to California State Prison Sacramento, because of my diagnosis I was forced into retirement at a early age.

ALS has significantly changed my life as I can no longer walk, dress, or bathe myself without assistance and am bound to a wheelchair for mobility.

On the positive side, ALS has helped me to look at life differently and enjoy the simple things since we are not promised tomorrow. I have a tremendous support system which includes my family, friends and the ALS Association. The ALS Association has provided me with various mobility devices, resource materials, and a network of staff and resources to address questions or my needs as they arise. The ALS Association’s ability to address my questions and concerns timely has helped alleviate stress and keep me on a positive path.

Ruben would like to personally thank all those who support local charities like the ALS Association.
