Charity Is A Large Part Of My Life

Article Aaron Casas, Department of Transportation

Charity is a large part of my life.  My family and I have always believed in giving to the less fortunate, helping those in need and caring for every individual with respect, love and dignity.  We believe that spending time helping local charities throughout one’s life helps shape everyone involved. The people being helped receive emotional, monetary, and even spiritual support through the hard times, and the helper receives life lessons on how to be a kind, compassionate and understanding person.  It helps both parties grow as individuals and brings people together while assisting in each other’s lives to build character and a lifestyle of helping anyone and everyone. “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”

I have been blessed and was given many talents which I can use to help others.  Everyone is blessed with their own individual talents and can be involved in a charity in many different facets.  People need to be open to try something new, help those you might not know and be willing to spread the joy you have been given with someone a less fortunate. Talents can be large or small, you do not have to be a great artist, a famous singer or a genius, but you can simply be a kind and soft spoken person who works well with people.  You can be a person who has good leadership qualities to help lead and organize events and activities.  You can also have a simple talent of having a good eye for organizing to assist in planning activities.  Every talent is valuable and there is always a way for everyone to use the talents they have to help in a charitable cause.“Life is entrusted to man as a treasure which must not be squandered, as a talent which must be used well.”

One talent I use to help assist with a charity I work for is I am good with numbers, am very organized and can complete and work on multiple tasks at once. With that in mind I have taken on duties of treasurer for the local charity I work for.  Since I like working with numbers I can keep track of the books and double check all payments, expenses and donations are properly calculated and reported.  My talents also allow me to participate in the organization and execution of different fund raisers to help run the charity.  I am involved with the planning and completion of these events all while keeping up on my responsibilities as treasurer.  These activities do sometimes add up to a lot of work but it is easy to get through tough times when remembering, we are not doing this work for ourselves but for others.  We are trying to help in any way we can and with the talents we were blessed with. “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
